The Flag Badge (1959)

Formal application was made for the new armorial bearings to replace the flag badge, and on 27th July 1959 the Secretary of State reported that the Counsellors of State in Her Majesty's absence had approved on the Queen's behalf the use of the Hong Kong armorial bearings as a flag badge on a white circular ground in the fly of the Blue Ensign. The new flag badge was subsequently officially recorded by the Admiralty, and is reproduced in Plate XIV. The battle, started in 1869 and fought again by Sir Cecil Clementi in 1912, had at last been won.
