The Police Badge
The Police Badge
Until 1934 the cap badge of the Police Force consisted of the letters G R I surmounted by a Crown. The badge was not used solely by the Police, and in 1934 Mr. K. A. Bidmead, now Deputy Commissioner of Police, suggested that the Police should have their own distinctive badge. He was authorized to design a new badge, and the present Police badge, shown in Plate XVI, is the result of his work. As can be seen, it incorporates the 1876 harbour picture (with certain modifications) surrounded by a laurel wreath and surmounted by a Crown. This badge is now worn on the caps of all ranks and decorates Police vehicles. Minor changes have been made throughout the years: in particular, the Police colours, which were maroon, black and gold before the War, are now blue and silver.
